UPCOMING EVENTS

HEAD OF THE RIVER 2010

DATE: Saturday, September 25, 2010

LOCATION: Blackie Spit Park, Crescent Beach, BC

DETAILS: Likened to the Head of the Charles in length and twists, the annual Nicomekl Head of the River is a 6 km race down the winding and beautiful Nicomekl River. Tidal banks and currents make it a tactical challenge for the cox/bow to find the fastest and smoothest course for the crew.

There are two events: a CLASS EVENT in the morning with awards for the top crew in each boat class (1x, 2x, 2-, 4x, 4-, 4+ and 8+) and for the top NOVICE and JUNIOR crews, and a TROPHY RACE in the afternoon with all crews handicapped by age, gender and boat type to determine the overall Head of the River 2010 crew. There is also a trophy for the best Junior crew at the regatta.

TECHNICAL ROWS

A new feature in our rowing options this year will be a Technical Row on the first Sunday of every month, starting on April 4 and running until September 5 (a total of 6 rows). These rows will be 3 - 4 hours long and will cost $10 per participant per session. These rows will concentrate on the more technical aspects of rowing which can be used for preparation for regattas or just for rowers who want to improve their skills. However, you must be prepared to come to these sessions to WORK HARD - they are not just another coached row.

Minimum number to run these sessions is 8. If we get more than 8, we will have two coaches. Less than eight might mean cancellation. In order to know in advance how many coaches to book for the sessions, I would request that I have your registration and payment in by March 15. You may register for all sessions ($60) or selected sessions that you know you can make. If you have paid for a session and can't make it, you can sell the session to a friend. You can register as a single or a crew, but you may be boated by Leigh at certain sessions depending on what the practice session is. Anybody, at any level, can register for these sessions as long as they are willing to go out and work.

Session selection and payment can be left in the locked box at the club (behind the white board) in an envelope for Tracy before March 15.

This is a great opportunity to learn important skills that can then be practiced at Coached Rows or while rowing on your own and working on skills for a regatta.
