HEAD OF THE RIVER 2008 DATE : Saturday, September 20, 2008 LOCATION: Blackie Spit Park, Crescent Beach, BC DETAILS: Likened to the Head of the Charles in length and twists, the annual Nicomekl Head of the River is a 5.5 km race down the winding and beautiful Nicomekl River. Tidal banks and currents make it a tactical challenge for the cox/bow to find the fastest and smoothest course for the crew. There are two events: a CLASS EVENT in the morning with class trophies for male, female and mixed in NOVICE, SENIOR and MASTERS crews - in each boat type, and a TROPHY RACE in the afternoon with all crews handicapped by age, gender and boat type to determine the overall Head of the Nicomekl 2008 crew. There is also a trophy for the best Junior crew at the regatta. Coaches meeting and race times TBA. ENTRY FEE: $28 per participant, includes meal and drink at the wrap up party. Cheques can be made out to Nicomekl Rowing Club and mailed to the address below. Entry fee for registrations received after the deadline date will be $34 per participant. REGISTRATION: Deadline for registration is August 31, 2008. Participating clubs should e-mail Shelley Fletcher at shelley_fletcher@telus.net with the list of participating boats and crews, indicating their average age and whether they are male, female or mixed crews.
