Rowing Programs
The Club strives to make opportunities for everyone to get out on the water accompanied by a coach/safety boat but not restrict them to certain rowing programs. The rowing schedule delivers a variety of scheduled rowing experiences, which are created in a flexible manner, and the membership can pick and choose which rows they want to attend.
Coached Rows are open to all members and all rowing abilities. The Coached Rows are dependent on tides and conditions. The Coached Row schedule is posted on the Club website.
Types of Coached Club Row
1. Fit for Life Rows
The focus of these rows is of a technical and recreational nature, with drills, blade work, stability, and steady state rows. Learn To Row graduates are welcome to attend. Approximately 8-12 km rows. |
2. Speed Rows
The focus of these rows is to generate boat speed with the intent to race. Time trials, aerobic based workouts, pyramids. Approximately 10-14 km rows. |
3. Development Rows
These rows focus on developing the basic rowing skills, less emphasis on covering distance, more emphasis on body posture, sequence of motion, timing etc. Great focussed rows for those graduating from the Learn To Row and maybe 6-10 km rows. |
4. Club Social Rows
From time to time the club will schedule Club Social Rows. These are fun club events intended for all members to get to know each other. One of these rows will be organized for the last session of each Learn to Row Program. All Members are encouraged to attend the Club Social Rows. Preferably rowing with members other than your usual crew. Usually the row ends with a social event or BBQ. |
5. Winter Indoor Training
During the colder darker days from November to March rowers have fun by attending the coached indoor winter training program. The coaches provide a regular program of erg workouts and fitness exercises. The participant is monitored for technical performance and feedback is provided via video analysis. These sessions increase strength and cardiovascular performance and prepare the athlete for on water rowing in the spring. |
6. Learn to Row
The Nicomekl Learn to Row Program teaches the fundamentals of the rowing stroke and boat handling skills. This program is designed for people who have never rowed before, or individuals that have been away from the sport for a while and wish to refresh their rowing technique. The Club encourages Learn to Row graduates, who join the Club, to attend any Development, or Fit For Life rows. If a recent Learn to Row graduate is interested in attending Speed rows please talk to the Speed row coach. |
