Nicomekl Rowing Club
South Surrey, BC

Welcome to our Rowing Club!

The Nicomekl Rowing Club is located in the Elgin Heritage Park in South Surrey, British Columbia. It is an established and dynamic rowing club for the community and welcomes people of all rowing experience by encouraging recreational rowers and those intending to develop strong competitive crews. The Club has a diverse membership, with ages ranging from young adults to seniors, and abilities ranging from novice to experienced rowers. Learn-to-Row classes are provided in the Spring and Summer. Ongoing coaching and rowing opportunities are held throughout the year at coached rows.

The Club is committed to organising the annual Head of the Nicomekl Regatta inviting rowers from Western Canada and the United States.

The Nicomekl River
Elgin Heritage Park’s major advantage is its location beside the Nicomekl River, a river ideally suited for rowing. It is a protected, unique waterway with a navigable length (from the mouth of Crescent Beach Marina to the dam adjacent to King George Highway) of approximately 4.5 kilometres.

The setting is picture-perfect with farmlands to the north and untouched banks to the south. Rowing on the Nicomekl River promotes awareness of the beautiful setting as well as the surrounding environment. Rowing in a quiet, natural setting instills a respect for nature and has many therapeutic benefits.

The Sport of Rowing

The sport of rowing is a very balanced activity, promoting health, fitness and camaraderie. Rowing in tranquil, natural settings instils a respect for nature and provides many therapeutic benefits.

Rowing is a non-impact aerobic workout that can be enjoyed by the entire family and practiced for most of one's life. Rowers have the best all around fitness of any athlete as rowing provides both aerobic and strength workouts by utilizing all major muscle groups in the upper and lower body. Participants can choose the intensity of the workout to best suit their fitness level. It can also be a challenging team sport that develops discipline, strength and endurance.
