The Nicomekl River
Elgin Heritage Park’s major advantage is its location beside the Nicomekl River, a river ideally suited for rowing. It is a protected, unique waterway with a navigable length (from the mouth of Crescent Beach Marina to the dam adjacent to King George Highway) of approximately 4.5 kilometres.
The setting is picture-perfect with farmlands to the north and untouched banks to the south. Rowing on the Nicomekl River promotes awareness of the beautiful setting as well as the surrounding environment. Rowing in a quiet, natural setting instills a respect for nature and has many therapeutic benefits.
